'Mompox Inteligente, Digital y Conectado' Wins Smart City Award for Best Public Sector Initiative in Colombia at Expo I 2025

Mompox Inteligente, Digital y Conectado project, jointly led by Ministerio TIC and Gobernación de Bolívar, was recognized as the best public sector initiative at the 2025 City Initiatives and Innovation Awards, an event held within the framework of EXPO I.
The Minister of ICT, Julián Molina, emphasized that the project demonstrates how it is possible to integrate technology, heritage conservation, sustainability, and social inclusion to transform places with a cultural identity like Mompox.
The jury, made up of international experts in urban planning, digitalization, cybersecurity, innovation, and public policy, praised the project's harmonization of technological modernity and cultural preservation.
Governor Yamil Hernando Arana expressed that this recognition is for all Mompox residents who have embraced technology as a bridge between tradition and progress: “We are democratizing internet access, even in rural areas, so that no corner of Mompox is left out of this transformation.”
Among the aspects highlighted by the jury are:
Smart technological infrastructure with renewable energy.
Free connectivity for the community.
Tourism and heritage app that promotes access to information and the local economy.
Effective coordination between the Ministerio TIC, the Governor's Office, the municipality, and cultural and social stakeholders in the region.
Omar Saúl Duarte, organizer of EXPO I and member of the Smart City Chile Advisory Council, added that “Mompox Inteligente… represents an inspiring model for intermediate territories seeking to advance their digitalization without losing their roots.”
This recognition reaffirms the ICT Ministry's commitment to bringing digital democracy to the entire country, improving the quality of life through technology and projecting Mompox as a smart, innovative, and competitive destination nationally and internationally.
